Not only does the 8 stops* of image stabilisation help achieve tack sharp macro images, the lens performs exceptionally well in low-light as well.

RF100mm f/2.8L MACRO IS USM reduced the focusing distance to achieve the 1.4x magnification but still able to maintain sufficient working space to shoot tiny subjects that requires specific lighting.

RF100mm f/2.8L MACRO IS USM is equipped with a Spherical Aberration(SA) Control Ring that allows adjustments to the softness of edges at the focal point and controls the softness of background and foreground blur. This allows different depiction of bokeh for various expressions of any style.
Handheld shots of night scenes or macro that were previously not possible are now made possible with RF100mm f/2.8L MACRO IS USM's image stabilisation of up to 8 shutter speed stops (when paired with compatible cameras).
The lens also comes with Hybrid IS. It is effective in correcting shift camera shakes, which are more apparent during handheld macro shooting.
The two Nano USMs (Ultrasonic Motors) power the RF100mm f/2.8L MACRO IS USM's autofocus (AF) capabilities, achieving fast accurate AF.
Each Nano USM works independently to control the focusing and floating lens groups.
The electronic floating focus control system within the RF100mm f/2.8L MACRO IS USM enables high speed control with high accuracy.
Subject magnification fluctuation (focus breathing) phenonmenon happens due to focusing and is more prominent when shooting macro. At 1.0x magnification, the RF100mm f/2.8L MACRO IS USM is capable of suppressing the focus breathing at approximately 50% more than EF100mm f/2.8L IS USM.
