The Pre-continuous Shooting function allows capturing up to 20 images even before the shutter is fully pressed. This is extremely useful when photographing subjects which are highly unpredictable, such as wildlife and sports.
In addition, there is no limitation in terms of file format - RAW/C-RAW/HEIF/JPEG can be selected.
Dual Pixel Intelligent AF is the next generation autofocus technology that brings about significant improvements in subject detection and tracking in both photos and videos.
Action Priority AF
The new Action Priority AF can recognise distinctive actions1 in sports2 and focus on decisive moments. The camera analyses ball position, joint movements and presence of multiple subjects via deep learning. Focus is automatically switched to the person who is executing a specific action instantaneously, where previously, it was almost impossible for the photographer to change the AF frame instantly when the action happens within a fraction of a second.
1 Shooting, passing, rebound, spike, serve and etc
2 Soccer, basketball and volleyball.
Register People Priority
The Register People Priority allows the detection and tracking of a specific person persistently by registering their face in advance. This is especially useful when capturing a performance, events and concerts where there could be multiple people in frame.
This improved version can detect the subject even when the subject faces sideways.
*Up to 10 faces can be registered at any given time
Deep Learning Tracking
The EOS R1 features advanced subject detection and tracking for eyes, faces, and heads, even from a distance or when the subject is facing away. Its Deep Learning tracking maintains focus on subjects despite obstructions, making it ideal for sports.
The camera adapts to changes in posture and lighting, and excels in detecting small subjects. Additionally, its obstacle avoidance algorithm recognises human heads and maintains focus despite obstacles.
Cross-Type AF
For the first time in Dual Pixel CMOS AF, it supports Cross-type AF during tracking across nearly 100% of the area, improving subject recognition and focus accuracy even in challenging conditions like low contrast or obstructed views.
The Cross-type AF enhances the EOS R1's ability to detect small subjects and those affected by horizontal patterns, such as players in striped uniforms or subjects behind a net.
Eye Control AF
The EOS R1 features Eye Control AF that allows you to quickly move the autofocus point based on your eye movements when looking through the viewfinder.
Utilising an approximately 307,000-pixel line-of-sight sensor, the Eye Control AF on the EOS R1 has approx. twice the detection frame rate compared to EOS R3 for even more precise accuracy when you shift focus between multiple subjects without the delay of manual adjustments.
See In The Dark
With focusing capability of up to EV -7.5, you will be surprised at how well the EOS R1 can focus even in near pitch black darkness.
6K 60p RAW
The high-resolution 6K footage shot at 60 fps enables cropping, angle correction, non-linear editing, and video play back speed adjustments before exporting to 4K or Full HD.
The 12-bit data offers greater flexibility for colour grading during post-processing.
4K 120p / 2K 240p / FHD 240p
Transform your videos into captivating slow-motion videos by reducing the play back speed up to 10 times, capturing every detail and depth with clarity.
In addition to that, enjoy high-quality audio even at these impressive high frame rates.
Proxy Recording
Enhance your workflow with simultaneous proxy recording, capturing smaller-sized proxy footage alongside high-quality RAW footage. This allows for quicker file transfers and speeds up offline editing before applying changes to the original footage. Look files can be applied to the proxy footage for preview and adjustments without altering the original file.
Canon Log 2 & Log 3
Canon Log 2 delivers film-like qualities, preserving details in medium to dark areas and allowing for precise exposure control with minimal colour changes.
Canon Log 3 is user-friendly for colour grading and produces less noise in dark areas while maintaining a wide dynamic range.
Both logs are compatible with Cinema-Log production settings, making them perfect for film production.
